Emergency Department - We operate three hospital-based 24-hour Emergency Departments that treat more than 160,000 patients per year - our children’s Emergency Department treats more than 40,000 children per year alone. If you're interested in a different environment, our two 24-hour, full-service, freestanding Emergency Departments treat patients in the region.

OR - Medical/surgical nurses at WakeMed have the opportunity to work with a variety of patient populations. Patient education, discharge planning and continual care are some of the ways our nurses meet the needs of patients and their families.

Neuro - The Neuro Care Unit is our low-level brain injury acute care unit. Nurses are paired with nursing assistants for all shifts. While the care we provide in this unit is often complex and intense, the challenge and reward for our nurses is equally great.

Cardiac Critical Care - The Raleigh Campus is home to our state-of-the-art Heart Center, the busiest in North Carolina. From open heart surgery to cardiac catheterizations and angioplasty, our nurses work with a wide range of heart disease patients at the Hearth Center and in our two adult cardiac intensive care units.

Pediatrics - The Level III intensive care nursery at our Raleigh Campus is a referral center for high-risk pregnancies and critically ill babies throughout the region. In addition, we offer a pediatric intensive care unit, a dedicated pediatrics unit, pediatric primary care, specialty services and the county’s only Children’s Transport Service. As a nurse in these fields, you’ll have the opportunity to integrate your primary nursing skills with special training in difficult pregnancies and high-risk births, as well as several areas within pediatrics.
